People in the Slidell, Pearl River and Bay St. Louis areas may have heard and felt the NASA rocket tests Wednesday.

"NASA continued a critical test series for future flights of NASA’s SLS (Space Launch System) rocket in support of the Artemis campaign on March 27 with a full-duration hot fire of the RS-25 engine on the Fred Haise Test Stand at NASA’s Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi," according to a news release.

It is part of the preparations to return Americans to the moon.

Stennis is testing the engines that will send Artemis to the orbit the moon.

"Under NASA’s Artemis campaign, the agency will establish the foundation for long-term scientific exploration at the Moon; land the first woman, first person of color, and its first international partner astronaut on the lunar surface; and prepare for human expeditions to Mars."

The rockets and the crew capsules are under construction at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.
