A juvenile is in custody after an incident in which Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say a gun was fired on a school bus.
According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Captain Jason Rivarde, the incident happened around 7 a.m. Monday on a school bus in Harvey.
Rivarde says deputies were called to the bus while it was on Manhattan Boulevard near Magnolia Trace Drive. The initial call said the bus possibly was struck by gunfire. Rivarde says when deputies arrived, they noticed that the damage was consistent with a gun being fired from inside the bus.
Rivarde adds that deputies found a gun on the bus.
Several children were on the bus at the time of the incident. Rivarde says deputies interviewed them. One of those students later admitted to bringing the gun onto the bus and to "negligently discharging it."
No word on what charges or discipline the student will face.
