A Hammond Police officer faces domestic battery charges after his arrest by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputies.
"Corey Bergeron, 28, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail today on one count each of Battery on a Dating Partner with Strangulation (felony) and Battery on a Dating Partner," the sheriff's office announced Monday. "His bond was set at $50,000."
Bergeron is the son of Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron.
"Thursday morning, September 24, a woman came into the TPSO Victims Unit to report having been involved in an altercation earlier that morning with Bergeron at his home in the Robert area," the sheriff's office said. "During the investigation, evidence related to at least one prior incident involving the same victim was obtained."
Deputies arrested Bergeron Monday morning.
The sheriff's office said additional investigations involving other potential victims are underway.
