An EF-0 tornado touched down in Hammond during storms that hit the area Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service’s New Orleans bureau confirmed the tornado Monday night, calling it “short-lived.”

“The tornado was on the ground for around 0.77 miles and had a max width of around 40 yards,” NWS meteorologists said in a social media post. “Maximum established winds were around 85 (miles-per-hour).”

According to the NWS’s preliminary report, the tornado began at 2:39 p.m. in a parking lot on West Thomas Street and traveled south-southwest for around three-quarters of a mile before lifting along Saint Road four minutes later.
