Louisiana state police say they have arrested an "impaired driver after a Fatal St. Tammany Parish crash
"Shortly before 1:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash on LA Hwy 437 near North Fitzmorris Road in St. Tammany Parish," Trooper William Huggins said in an email.
He explained that 34-year-old Marlin Swaggerty of Covington died in the crash.
"The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 54-year-old Warren Barringer of Hammond, was northbound on LA Hwy 437. At the same time, a motorcycle, driven by Swaggerty, was southbound on LA Hwy 437. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet began to make a left turn onto North Fitzmorris Road and impacted the front of the motorcycle."
Both the pickup and the motorcycle went off the road.
"Although wearing a DOT approved helmet, Swaggerty suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene."
Trooper Huggins says that Barringer was properly restrained and was not injured.
"Barringer provided a breath sample that tested over the legal limit for alcohol. Troopers booked Barringer at the St. Tammany Parish Jail."
He is now charged with vehicular homicide.
"This crash remains under investigation."
