Power outages that happen in good weather: Entergy New Orleans will be answering questions about it before members of the New Orleans City Council today.

It's an issue that has irritated New Orleanians for years -- not a cloud in the sky, and all of the sudden, power goes out. And Councilmember Joe Giarrusso says it's getting worse.

"In 2024, equipment disruptions, interruptions, are a hundred percent higher than they were last year," said Giarrusso, citing information from the council's utilities regulatory office. "Entergy's own data, which they provided to us: over 20 percent of the outages were fair weather."

Giarrusso says these issues certainly aren't going unnoticed.

"All these utility issues are braided together and it's really hurting the constituents," he said.

Entergy says some of the problems can be traced back to bad weather, that damages and degrades equipment, but it doesn't fail until days later, in good weather.

The council's utilities committee meets at 10 a.m.
