Governor Landry made a campaign promise to help with the crime problem in New Orleans and after a special counsel was formed, there seems to be action on that promise in the form of "Troop NOLA"; a special team of State police who will assist NOPD.

Troop NOLA who will deploy to New Orleans in March and should help bridge some of the gap in NOPD staffing. The effects of having more officers will be felt citywide according to Councilman Freddie King.

“I’m hopeful this will continue the downtick of crime in the city. NOPD works tirelessly, but having some extra support and help is never a bad idea.”

The team will consist of forty state troopers . The team will be headquartered near University Medical Center but will participate in crime abatement areas in all parts of the city.

Councilman King says, “Whether you are in the East, Algiers, Lake View, or the Garden District, these officers are here to help.”
