Highs pushing toward records to end summer

As we roll toward the first day of fall, heat continues to be front and center in the forecast. Today may be the last day of summer but it will feel like we’re right in the middle of it with high temps climbing into the mid-90s under mostly sunny skies.

Tomorrow, highs will reach for records as we’ll see 95 degrees under clear and sunny skies.

On Friday a weak front will move in and hold down high temps in the low-90s.  The heat remains through Saturday and Sunday with a few storms possible Sunday and Monday as a cool front moves across the region.  High temps will drop back into the mid-80s by Tuesday.

Taking a look at the tropics, the Atlantic is becoming far more active than it’s been this season.  September is always the busiest month for hurricanes and we’re monitoring Fiona as a powerful Cat4 storm moving to the north.  It will stay west of Bermuda Thursday into Friday as it heads for Maritime Canada this weekend.

Newly upgraded Tropical Storm Gaston will remain over the open central Atlantic, no threat to land. There are two other areas in the deep Atlantic that could develop some this week, but they are not threats right now.

We’re keeping eyes on Invest 98, a system struggling to get through the next few day as it battles wind shear from the North.  The shear itself is outflow from Fiona to the North.  By the weekend the system will be in the central Caribbean Sea and much better off.

All signs point towards it organizing more this weekend in the Central Caribbean. By early next week the system will start to feel the tug of a trough over North America. This is what will pull the system north towards the Gulf. The timing of this trough and strength of the system is very important and will determine where Invest 98 would track in the Gulf, should the system reach the Gulf.
