How do cows survive a category four hurricane unscathed, while all the homes around them are decimated?
Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng wants to know.
State officials surveyed lower Jefferson Parish by helicopter Wednesday, passing over Lafitte and Grand Isle. They saw widespread destruction, but a few surprising survivors amidst the rubble.
Sheng described what she said was “utter devastation.”
“We flew over Grand Isle, and we flew over Laffite. It’s like you take a little house, you crumple it up, and from the helicopter it looks like match sticks... a little pile of match sticks that you are flying over,” Sheng described.
As leaders surveyed the desolate landscape they noticed a few survivors out and about enjoying a meal.
“For some reason the cows made it,” said Sheng. “I’ll have to look at that, we have to research… they’re grazing in the grass, all the cows made it so, that is definitely on my list to look into.”
Lee Sheng reiterated that the region is unlivable and residents should not return to check on their homes until they are given the all-clear by parish leaders
