Homicide investigation underway in Gentilly says NOPD

Police in New Orleans are investigating a homicide that took place in the 5300 block of Lafaye Street.

NOPD says it happened Tuesday at around 11:26 p.m. An NOPD report says, "Third district officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Lafaye Street on a call of an aggravated battery. When they arrived they found an unresponsive adult male lying down in the street. The victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the torso. He was transported to a local hospital by EMS. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. An adult male was detained for questioning."


The investigation is ongoing and detectives are attempting to determine a motive and a suspect in the incident.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the victim's name and the official cause of death.
