He owned and ran the Radisson Hotel New Orleans Airport in Kenner.

On June 16, Ashok Patel was involved in a violent confrontation with a man in the parking lot of his property.

Patel’s leg was broken, requiring numerous surgeries to repair it.

Three months after the confrontation, Patel succumb to a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his heart.

As for the man who was the alleged instigator of the attack, 30-year-old David Edward Schulein of Harris, Texas.

Schulein was arrested the day after the incident and jailed on a battery charge.  He was released on a $10,000 bond the next day and returned to Texas.

Schulein is now charged with second degree murder.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, Schulein’s attorney is in contact with Kenner Police and is making arrangements to surrender to authorities.

Patel, 67, worked as an engineer at NASA Michoud before retiring and building the Radisson Hotel New Orleans Airport in Kenner.
