Hundreds of extra workers helping try to restore power to thousands after severe weather

More than 25,000 power customers around Slidell went the night without electricity.

"Our service territory was impacted by severe storms causing damage to our distribution system, including broken poles, damaged crossarms and trees on power lines," Cleco posted. "In addition to all statewide Cleco personnel, we have secured 400 additional line mechanics and vegetation specialists to assist with clearing debris, system repairs and power restoration."


As of this morning, CLECO reported 20,255 customers still out.

The Washington, St. Tammany Electric Cooperative reported 5,686 customers out in St. Tammany  as of this morning.

"We are making progress," WST posted. :"St Tammany: 5,632 meters out (2,716 of these are due to broken transmission poles)."

CLECO asked customers with medical needs or small children "to make the necessary arrangements."

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper said, "It may take days to restore full power."
