
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department has placed a 31-year-old woman under arrest following the death of her child.
Marrero resident Autumn Blansett is facing a second degree charge of murder.
According to a press release Blansett was taken into custody at the Parish’s Investigations Bureau.
The matter began around 8:00 am on November 1, 2020, as deputies responded to Blansett’s residence near the intersection of Barataria and Eden Roc Avenue in Marrero.
Deputies were called after the mother found her 3-month-old daughter unresponsive.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The initial investigation did not reveal an obvious cause of death, and an autopsy was conducted by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office.
On December 11, 2020, JPSO Homicide detectives were notified that the toxicology report had been returned for the victim.
The report showed that the victim had a lethal amount of methamphetamine in her blood at the time of her death.
The victim’s cause of death was listed as methamphetamine intoxication, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Blansett was interviewed yesterday, and admitted to breast-feeding the victim shortly after using methamphetamine and marijuana.
A search warrant was conducted at her residence and small quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana were seized.
The victim’s death had not been previously reported as it was initially listed as an unclassified death.
