An autopsy is pending to determine what killed an who had been locked up in Jefferson Parish.
"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death," Sergeant Brandon Veal said in an email Wednesday night.
He says it happened around 8:40pm.
"An adult male inmate was transported from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center to a local hospital after experiencing a medical emergency. At approximately 9:10 p.m., he was pronounced dead at the hospital."
Veal says the coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
"There is no additional information available for release at this time."
