Louisiana's U.S. Senate primaries are today. Many local races and constitutional amendments also appear on the ballot.

The Republican senate primary is getting most of the attention. Bill Cassidy, a two-term incumbent, faces a serious challenge from two challengers who both accuse Cassidy of failing to support President Donald Trump.

Despite Cassidy's campaign ads showing him with the president and touting Mr. Trump signing an anti-fentanyl bill Cassidy championed, the president instead endorsed Republican Congresswoman Julia Letlow.

Letlow and two other Republicans, John Fleming and Mark Spencer, are vying to replace him.

Like Cassidy, Fleming is also a medical doctor.

The president called Cassidy "disloyal" after Cassidy never scheduled confirmation hearings for Surgeon General nominee Casey Means. Mr. Trump has also criticized Cassidy for the senator's vote to convict him on impeachment charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

There are three people vying for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate: Jamie Davis, Nick Albares and Gary Crockett.

There are also five constitutional amendments on ballots statewide, and a variety of local races.

New Orleans has two civil court and one criminal court judgeships. Slidell has the police chief's race. There is also a state supreme court race north of the lake, a BESE seat, and a position on the Public Service Commission.

The polls are open through 8 p.m.
