New Orleans City Council member Jared Brossett announced he is suspending his campaign for City Council At-Large and enters an inpatient rehab treatment following his second DWI arrest.

"I have a disease. I want to get better. I know that I need help, and I will engage the professional help that I need to be my best self," Brossett said in a statement on Thursday.

Brossett says in the statement that he will complete his term as Councilman for District D.

The announcement comes the same time the New Orleans City Council voted to remove Brossett as head of the Budget Committee after he was a no-show at the committee’s recent budget hearing.

Candidates still in the fall municipal election include former state Sen. J.P. Morrell, District C Councilmember Kristin Palmer, and Bart Everson. The primary election is on November 13.
