The first weekend of Jazz Fest is officially in the books.

There were big performances from Lil Wayne, Dave Matthews Band, and many more. NOLA.com’s Keith Spera joined WWL’s Dave Cohen to discuss what he’s looking forward to during next weekend’s slate.

One of the biggest acts coming up next weekend is Carlos Santana. While Spera noted that Santana has had some health issues as of late, he is expected to be on track to play Jazz Fest next Thursday. Joining him during that festival weekend will be Pearl Jam, Luke Combs, Lenny Kravitz, Cage the Elephant, and more, all hitting the stage from May 1-4th.

Spera notes that it’s not unusual for festival goers to skip the first weekend of Jazz Fest for the second (and likens it to contestants passing on the first showcase on The Price is Right in lieu of the second). With plenty of acts both local and national yet to hit the stage, people will need to pace themselves.

One bold prediction Spera made for the coming weekend: he expects Lenny Kravitz and Trombone Shorty to join each other onstage in some iteration. Shorty travels with Kravitz as part of his band, so with both set to play the same day, Spera expects them to jam together.
