The bad weather on Thursday caused Jazz Fest to shorten its schedule, with plans to end today's performances around 5 p.m.
But the approach of a strong thunderstorm cell hastened those plans, and the Fairgrounds shut down around 3:30 p.m., according to NOLA.com.
The fest is still on for Friday, but with more rain in the forecast, people with plans to attend Jazz Fest should stay up to date in case any changes are announced.
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday, the fest's final two days, looks much better with no rain and highs in the low 70s.
