Jefferson Parish residents have had to boil water before consuming it since Hurricane Ida uprooted trees that took water mains with them, causing a collapse in water pressure during the storm.
While pressure in most areas have been restored to minimum safety levels, about 50 water line breaks still need attention as of Sunday morning, according to The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.
Testing of water samples for possible contamination cannot begin until commercial power is restored to Jefferson Parish's water treatment plants. That process has begun on the Westbank, where power was restored to the plant Sunday.
Power may not be restored to the Eastbank plant until Wednesday. And it takes time for the samples to be analyzed.
In normal circumstance, that can take up to 72 hours,
Public Works Director Mark Drewes said that means it may not be until Friday or Saturday when they get the all-clear and can tell residents on the Easbank they no longer need to boil their water.
