The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says it arrested a deputy after a domestic disturbance and hit-and-run in a marked JPSO patrol car Monday night.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto says they arrested and fired Kyle Nugent .
"On the night of August 31, 2026, deputies responded to a disturbance involving Dep. Nugent and his girlfriend," said Capt. Jason Riavrde with the sheriff's office. "Nugent committed a domestic abuse battery against his girlfriend. The investigation also showed that at one point, Nugent committed a hit-and-run in the parking lot of the apartment complex where the incident was taking place."
Deputies booked Nugent into the parish jail on counts including operating a vehicle while impaired, reckless operation of a vehicle, hit-and-run driving, and domestic abuse battery (strangulation).
Nugent had been with the sheriff's office for nine years.
