The weather can determine the outlook of any day or event and Mardi Gras is no exception. Many locals and visitors kept citing the physical warmth of this year’s Fat Tuesday as the reason why crowds seemed to be thicker than usual. Following a Mardi Gras this week, Jefferson Parish president Cynthia Lee Sheng appeared on WWL First News with Tommy Tucker to look back on this year’s holiday. Lee Sheng told Tucker she was “recuperating” from Fat Tuesday. She likely wasn’t alone. Lee Sheng said the weather attracted more people to the parades in Jefferson Parish. While there were violent incidents in New Orleans, Lee Sheng said her parish was able to avoid major crime issues.

“When I woke up that morning, I’m like ooh, it’s a little hot I think people are going to be drinking a little bit more. You had some minor incidents that you would have honestly any carnival season, there were some things, but overall thank goodness it was a successful season we didn’t have any major injuries or anything like that,” Lee Sheng told Tucker.
