New bus services kick off today as Jefferson Transit “JeT” makes changes to routes designed to add frequency and reduce ride times for passengers.

Called New Links, the transit system is enacting the changes following years of study and research by the Regional Planning Commission.


The concept is improve moving people between jobs in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes.

With a goal of increasing the number of households within a half mile of transit from 19% to 38%.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, JeT also aims to increase the number of runs buses that make five to 15 minute runs from 15% to 21%.

For East Jefferson riders this means the main bus line, E-1 Veterans Boulevard will shorten waiting times to 24 minutes between buses.

The E-5 Causeway bus line will become the E-6 Metairie Local with service added to West Napoleon and Severn Avenues.

Over on the Westbank, W-1-Avondale line is being expanded to Segnette, South Jamie and Nicole Boulevards.

JeT is also expanding service on the Westbank to Westwego with stops at Delgado Community College, Alario Center, Segnette Field and Emmett Gilbert School.
