The Jefferson Parish Council today will get an update from Entergy on the power grid, and why it seems to be failing so much.
"We've had about, by our count, 20 outages in 2024," said Jefferson Parish Councilman at-large Scott Walker, who notes that a lot of them happened during good weather. "To me and a lot of us, that's far too much."
Walker has invited representatives from Entergy, and the Public Service Commission, which regulates the power utility, to today's meeting.
"(To) talk about the fees that we pay, these hurricane restoration fees, what are they actually going toward? What are we doing to harden our grid and our infrastructure for the future?" Walker asked.
Ultimately, though, there isn't much the council can do. Unlike New Orleans, where the city council regulates the power monopoly, the Jefferson council does not.
The council meeting starts at 10 a.m. in the Yenni building in Elmwood.
