Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng is isolating after testing positive for COVID.
Sheng posted to her social media accounts that she wasn't feeling well earlier this week and began experiencing COVID symptoms on Tuesday. A rapid test initially came back negative, but a second test today was positive.
"We are currently experiencing our greatest spike in the pandemic," said Sheng. "I am urging everyone that feels sick to please stay home."
Louisiana today reported its highest number of daily new cases of the coronavirus: 17,592, with 1,999 COVID patients hospitalized, and 14 more deaths.
