JPSO: Brother kills brother on Thanksgiving

Crime
WWL

Cops say Thanksgiving turned to tragedy on the Westbank.

"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening in Waggaman," Captain Jason Rivarde said in an email. "One adult male was shot and killed, and his brother has been arrested for second degree murder."

It happened just after 5:30pm.

"Deputies were called to the 30 block of Marigold Lane in reference to a shooting.  Upon arriving, they observed the victim lying in the street in front of a residence."

Rivarde says deputies and EMTs tried to save the man's life, but could not.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene."

Investigators say the suspect drove off after killing his brother.

"Deputies were able to develop a suspect vehicle used by the brother to flee the scene, and that information was spread across the local area. Around 7:00 pm, a deputy spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Ames and Lapalco Boulevards. When deputies attempted to stop the suspect, he refused to stop."

Cops chased the suspect into Jean Lafitte, where he stopped in the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Blvd.

"The suspect ran from the vehicle, and deputies were able to catch him and take him into custody. After searching the area, deputies were able to locate a firearm along the suspect’s path as he ran from deputies."
