JPSO: Deputy shoots at driver during stop that leads to chase

WWL

A Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputy shot at a suspect during an attempted traffic stop that led to a chase through Metairie, authorities with sheriff’s office say.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sergeant Brandon Veal, the incident began around 3 p.m. Monday when deputies tried to pull over a stolen car in the parking lot of a business at the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Causeway Boulevard. Veal says one of the deputies involved in the stop fired a shot at the driver of the car while trying pulling the passenger out of the vehicle. Nobody was wounded.

Veal says despite the fired shot, the driver sped away from the scene and led deputies on a chase that ultimately ended at the corner of Causeway and 26th Street. The suspect then abandoned the car and ran away from deputies. The foot chase ended moments later when deputies caught the suspect and arrested him.

Deputies have not released the suspects’ names or the charges they are facing.

The shooting remains under investigation.
