A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy is injured after being struck by a vehicle; the deputy then fired shots at the driver.
“Just after 8:00 pm, the personnel of a store in the 4300 block of Jefferson Highway notified one of our deputies of the presence of habitual shoplifters inside the store,” said JPSO Captain Jason Rivarde.
“Upon his arrival, the deputy parked his vehicle in a manner to box in the suspect vehicle to prevent the suspects from escaping. The suspects refused all directives from the deputy and attempted to drive away,” said Rivarde.
He says the deputy held onto the vehicle and was thrown into his own vehicle by the momentum as they attempted to flee. The suspect’s vehicle then rolled over the deputy’s foot, and he fired his service weapon at the driver multiple times.
The deputy is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. JPSO investigators are working to locate the suspects.
