
A man was found hanging from his neck inside his jail at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center according to Sheriff Joe Lopinto.
The man was discovered by deputies just before 7:30 a.m. He was found suspended by some type of tie around his neck. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Sheriff Lopinto says his death is believed to be a suicide and is no indication of any foul play.
The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name but say he was a 40-year-old and a resident of Metairie. He was being held at the Correctional Center since his arrest on January 19 for First Degree Rape and Sexual Battery according to the sheriff’s office.
