A suspect charged in connection with a shootout at a Canal Street hotel has pleaded guilty to multiple gun and drugs charges.
According to federal prosecutors, Brian Jacob faces at least five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines after pleading guilty to three counts. One of the counts, illegally maintaining a drug-involved premises, carries a possible 20-year prison sentence. Another count, possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, carries a mandatory five-year sentence that will be served consecutively with any other sentence the judge imposes.
Jacob will be sentenced on September 19.
Jacob, 23, was charged in connection with the December 28, 2020, shooting at the Jung Hotel in which two men were injured. That shooting happened when three armed men went to the hotel to rob a drug dealer of his stash. According to authorities, more than 80 shots were fired during the incident. The hotel's security cameras recorded most of the incident. In all, three people were wounded in the incident.
In March 2023, that drug dealer, Clarence Santiago, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the shootout. Two other men, Darius Dannel and Terrell Moore, pleaded guilty to federal armed robbery, conspiracy, and guns charges in connection with the case. They each face 10 years in prison when they're sentenced on June 28.
