After 16 months, jury trials resume in New Orleans. There has not been a case before a jury at Tulane and Broad since the start of the pandemic.
While prosecutors and defense lawyers are getting ready to get back into action, one legal expert wonders if the jurors themselves will be available.
"I would suspect that most of the judges aren't going to want non-vaccinated people serving in juries. That should be a reason for cause," said Loyola law professor Dane Ciolino. "They are imperiling the health of the others in that confined space in the courtroom."
Ciolino says coupled with lagging vaccination rates, "I think that's going to be an issue that the judges are going to have to face."
