Former Louisiana State Senator Karen Carter Peterson will have to wait a little longer to learn her sentence in her wire fraud case.
Peterson was set to be sentenced today in federal court in New Orleans. She pleaded guilty in August, admitting to stealing nearly $150,000 from campaign accounts to fund her gambling problem.
Loyola law professor Dane Ciolino says Peterson will likely serve several months, if not a couple of years, in jail.
"Depending on what the exact computations are, she probably is looking at something at around two years of jail time for this," said Ciolino. "That could go up or down, depending on aggravating and mitigating circumstances associated with the events."
Sentencing is now set for December 28.
