Kenner boy kidnapped in 2017 found; mother arrested

Kenner Kidnapping
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

A boy from Kenner kidnapped in 2017 has been found safe in Colorado. His mother, who, according to Jefferson Parish and federal authorities, abducted him is in a Colorado jail.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Rabia Khalid during a home burglary. Deputies found her son, Abdul "Aziz" Khan, and another child waiting in her car at the time of her arrest. Khalid's husband, Elliot Bourgeois, was also arrested during the incident.

According to the United States Marshals Service, Khalid and Bourgeois fled their home in Atlanta around Thanksgiving 2017, taking Khan with them. At the time, Khalid and Khan's father were embroiled in a custody battle in Jefferson Parish Court. Authorities accuse Khalid, Bourgeois, and their families of not cooperating with their investigation. In 2019, the Kenner Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Khalid in the disappearance of her son.

The case was featured on a 2022 edition of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries.

Both Khalid and Bourgeois are facing second-degree kidnapping charges in connection with the Khan case. They're also facing forgery, identity theft, providing false information to officers, and trespassing charges.

Both Khan, now 14, and the other child, whose identity has not been released, were placed in protective custody pending court action.

“We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found," Khan's family said in a statement. "We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years. We specifically want to recognize the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional work in solving this case. Now, as we navigate the next steps, we ask for privacy so that we can move forward as a family and heal together.”
