Witness reports of an gunman shooting inside a Kenner Walmart appear to be greatly exaggerated.
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley tells WWL that an electrical malfunction caused the pops that employees and customers inside the store heard, not gunshots.
"The scene is cleared, the store has been turned back over to Walmart management," Conley said. "It was an electrical issue."
Officers swept the store to make absolutely certain there were no threats or dangers inside the building.
One of the customers told WWL First News that he heard what he thought was a gunshot in the store while he was checking out.
"They just ran us all out and the place is now surrounded with Kenner cops," he said.
