A Lafourche Parish man faces charges in Kenner after cops say he shot another man, but may not have meant to.
"The Kenner Police Department has arrested a 23-year-old Lockport man following an investigation into a shooting that injured a man inside a Williams Boulevard business," Deputy Chief Mark McCormick said in a news release.
It happened during a night of drinking.
"Video showed a male later identified as Gabriel Quinto-Andino, along with the victim and several other
individuals seated together at a table, socializing and consuming alcoholic beverages."
McCormick says they used evidence captured by a surveillance system to figure out what happened.
"Quinto-Andino was seated at the table when he lowered his hands toward his waist area. A gunshot was then heard, and Quinto-Andino was observed looking toward his waist as the victim stood and grabbed his injured leg."
Rather than help the man he allegedly shot under the table, cops say the suspect tried to cover it up and fled the scene.
"Video showed other patrons reacting to the gunshot. Detectives allege that Quinto-Andino then returned to the table and passed an object believed to be the firearm to a female before leaving the business. He was subsequently observed entering the driver's seat of a pickup truck and traveling southbound on Williams Boulevard."
It all happened in the establishment in the 3600 block of Williams Boulevard.
"Kenner Police officers arrived within approximately one minute and located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was stabilized."
Detectives later arrested the alleged shooter.
"Based on the evidence developed during the investigation, Kenner Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Quinto-Andino."
He has since been booked on multiple charges.
"Detectives located Quinto-Andino during a traffic stop."
He faces:
- Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm on the Premises of an Alcoholic Beverage Outlet (Misdemeanor)
- Obstruction of Justice (Felony)
- Negligent Injuring (Misdemeanor)
- Failure to Seek Assistance (Felony)
- Operating a Vehicle While Under Suspension for Certain Prior Offenses (Misdemeanor)
