The New Orleans Police Department announced they have located 5-month-old Nicholas Washington Friday morning.
Police were searching for the infant and his mother Shawanna Washington after she took the boy from a relative’s home Thursday afternoon.
An NOPD report says:
Through investigation, detectives learned that at about 8:00 a.m. today, Shawanna Washington arrived at a relatives’ residence in the 2100 block of Elysian Fields Avenue to visit Nicholas Washington, who was recently placed under court-ordered custody of the State of Louisiana Child Protective Services and was located to the home of a relative at the listed location.
The relative reported that when they had stepped away for a moment at about 2:15 p.m., Shawanna Washington allegedly took Nicholas Washington from the location without permission and fled, while also reportedly taking the relative’s phone without permission.
Shawanna Washington reportedly fled the location with her son in an older black van with no visible license plates that was driven by an unknown male. Shawanna Washington reportedly contacted the relative via phone following the incident and stated that she had taken Nicholas Washington and was not going to return him.
The NOPD says they are still awaiting information regarding the possible arrest of a suspect in this incident and will update when that information becomes available.
