The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says the driver and one of the passengers in the vehicle that struck and killed Sgt. Grant Candies now face kidnapping charges.
Sgt. Candies had just laid a spike strip across west-bound I-10 near the Oak Harbor exit to assist in apprehending the fleeing suspects, when the car driven by 17-year-old Adrian Waughtal fatally struck him early Sunday morning, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators say the vehicle had a total of five occupants: Waughtal, 17-year-old Mason Paul Eugene Fischer, 17-year-old Michael Emanuel Lanier, and two female passengers.
Waughtal, Fischer, and Lanier all face first degree murder charges in connection with Sgt. Candies' death.
Additionally, Waughtal and Fischer now face second degree kidnapping charges. Investigators say it is for refusing to stop and let the female passengers out of the car, despite the females' repeated pleas to be let out.
