King: New Orleans has "citywide issue" just living in the city

The debate over enforcement of rules and delays in getting permits and services in the French Quarter is widening.

New Orleans City Councilman Freddie King says recent discussion about problems in the French Quarter have opened his eyes.

"There is an issue in the city of New Orleans when it comes to just doing business to just living in this city," he told WWL's Newell Normand. "This is a New Orleans, citywide issue."

King says it stretches from difficulties getting permits, to addressing problems and engaging city services.

"I'm reminded by business owners and property owners, 'Hey, why isn't it easy here like it is across the lake?'"

King is holding off on his plan to improve things in the French Quarter while he works to fix things across the city.

That means that planned debate on the Vieux Carré Commission at the City Council will not move forward at this time.
