A Louisiana fire department is warning against following toilet-cleaning directions on a TikTok trend gaining popularity.
St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 is bringing the public’s attention to a video called “EXTREME Deep Toilet Cleaning,” saying the mix of chemicals portrayed in the clip could be extremely hazardous.
“This is in fact extremely dangerous. Mixing several types of chemicals together may form a reaction between the chemicals, and in doing so, produce very harmful and possibly fatal vapors,” the fire department explains.
In addition, the mixture of chemicals can also create an exothermic reaction, a potentially violently intense amount of heat.
The toilet and pipes could also be damaged by the mixture if vapors are not able to escape quickly, possibly even causing an explosion.
The fire department cautions, “Remember to read the instructions on all products and only do as they recommend. Never mix chemicals together if you do not know if they will react to one another.”
