Coronavirus infections in Louisiana made a steep increase over the Christmas weekend, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.
"Since yesterday, 2,619 new #COVID cases have been reported to the state," the department posted on its Twitter page. "That’s out of 12,831 tests. 20% of the tests reported since yesterday resulted in new cases."
Since Thursday, there have been 12,164 new cases reported in Louisiana, and 17 more COVID deaths. 449 COVID patients were reported hospitalized, the most since mid-October.
Health officials urge the unvaccinated to get their shots, and for the vaccinated to get boosters if eligible.
