A Louisiana man is dead after lifeguards pulled him from the Gulf of Mexico waters off a Destin Florida beach Tuesday.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as a 47-year old man from St. Martinville Louisiana, about 16 miles outside of Lafayette.
Family members tell Florida authorities the man dove under the water and never resurfaced. This happened about 9:30 Tuesday morning.
Lifeguards located him approximately 75 yards from the beach, face down in the water, and brought him ashore.
The lifeguards’ attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful said the sheriff’s office.
The man’s identity has not been released.
