Louisiana State Police says they have arrested 20-year-old Jaquan-Maleek Hebert from Golden Meadow in the investigation of a crash that killed 43-year-old Michael Guill.

According to an LSP report, troopers were investigating a crash that happened on July 11, on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 55th Street in Lafourche Parish.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 when it traveled off the roadway while in a curve. The driver attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected causing the truck to rotate while traveling off the roadway before overturning into Bayou Lafourche and becoming submerged.

Guill was unable to exit the submerged truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say Hebert was also in the truck when it crashed but was able to get out of the truck.

As the investigation continued, troopers say they found evidence pointing to Hebert as the driver of the truck when it crashed and not the passenger.

A breathalyzer sample collected from Hebert the morning of the crash also showed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Hebert eventually confessed to being behind the wheel.

Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Hebert and booked him into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on the charges of vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and felony hit and run driving, among other charges.
