While the western coast of Florida is set to catch the full brunt of Hurricane Ian’s monster impact Wednesday afternoon, New Orleans wasn’t left fully unscathed from Mother Nature that morning.
Lakeshore Drive suffered a flood event thanks to the same northerly winds that kept Ian at bay for the Pelican State.
The street was closed off between Canal and Marconi Boulevards by Orleans Levee District Police, with waves washing over the seawall onto the road.
Parking lots and sidewalks were underwater thanks to the strong winds, and a wind advisory was issued for the area by the National Weather Service that lasts until 10 p.m.
Sustained winds of 20 mph are expected.
However, with Hurricane Ian expected to make landfall as a strong Category 4 storm, a few flooded parking spaces is a small annoyance indeed.
