Landry comes to New Orleans to sign more crime bills into law

Landry comes to New Orleans to sign more crime bills into law
Office of the Governor of Louisiana

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry today signed more of the bills passed in the special session on crime into law, and he came to New Orleans to do it.

"I have consistently come again and again to this city to say that this city needs to be a safe city," said Landry during the signing ceremony at the Port of New Orleans.

The governor said the state's work on crime didn't end with the special session.

"Every time this legislature goes into session, we will be working with victims and law enforcement to tweak some of these laws or to change other laws to again make sure that we create a balance in our criminal justice system," said Landry.

Landry signed bills that increase jail time for crimes including carjacking and distribution of fentanyl. He also signed bills that would keep crime victims apprised of how their cases are moving through the court system.
