New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office this morning announced that starting tonight, alcohol sales at bars and restaurants can continue through 1 a.m.
"Service and sales of alcoholic beverages, whether for consumption on or off premises, and including packaged alcohol sales, shall only occur between the hours of 6 a.m. and 1 a.m. in the entertainment district," the city's news release states. "This includes the French Quarter and Central Business District, which shall be defined to include all areas bounded by the Mississippi River, the center line of Esplanade Avenue, the center line of Rampart Street, and the center line of Common Street."
The city's daily count of new coronavirus cases have been in decline, and the positivity rate of tests has been under one percent for weeks.
The city says more than 37 percent of residents have received at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccine, and nearly 25 percent of the city has been fully vaccinated.
