Investigators with the New Orleans Police Department are working on a fatal shooting of a law enforcement officer who was working security detail at a G.W. Carver basketball game.
Police reported the incident at about 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. The initial police report says officers responded to the shooting, which happened in the 3000 block of Higgins Street near George Washington Carver High School. WWLTV reports one of their photographers was recording the game when shots rang out.

Police had closed part of I-10 westbound as EMS transport the wounded office to the hospital. Police escorted the wounded officer to University Medical Center where he died from his injury.
As newsources report, the officer killed is a Tulane University police officer who is also a reserve New Orleans 2nd City Court Constable. His identity has not been officially released.
NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says the shooting stems from a commotion the TUPD officer overheard between an individual trying to enter the Carver H.S. gymnasium, where the basketball game was underway, and a school staff member working the gym entrance. The officer attempted to intervene when the individual pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the chest says, Ferguson.
Orleans Parish Deputies have one suspect in custody. The scene is an active investigation and few details are available at this time.
G.W. Carver High School posted a statement on social media saying "Violence of any sort is intolerable."
Carver H.S. was facing Warren Easton in a playoff game at the time of the shooting. The game was canceled following the shooting. New Orleans Homicide detectives are taking lead in the investigation.
