A deadly double shooting in Gentilly this week appears to be a revenge killing for the murder of an Edna Karr High School senior a year ago. That student's father faces second degree murder.
New Orleans police this morning booked Bokio Johnson, the father of Caleb Johnson -- murdered a year ago in Algiers. The man police say he killed was Hollis Carter, who faced second degree murder in Caleb Johnson's death.
Carter was on his way to a court appearance in his case Wednesday, when he was shot dead.
Loyola law professor Dane Ciolino says revenge is not justifiable homicide, but, he points out, jurors are human:
"It wouldn't surprise me if the jury would cut him a break and find him guilty of manslaughter," Ciolino said.
A manslaughter conviction would mean the difference of a maximum 40 year sentence, versus automatic life in prison for second degree murder.
