At least four members of the Kenner City Council have called for the ouster of Finance Director Michael Wetzel after a pair of serious arrests in December and January.
A letter by Council Members Kristi McKinney, Gregory Carroll, George Branigan, and Brian Brennan are demanding Mayor Ben Zahn fire Wetzel:
"Both allegations are very serious and call into question Mr. Wetzel's ability to continue to serve in his position," the letter said according to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate. "We believe these allegations warrant Mr. Wetzel's immediate termination."
The trouble began in December when Wetzel was accused of knocking out his wife during an argument and then getting arrested for alleged DWI.
Deborah Foshee, Chief Administrative Officer for Kenner City Hall told the paper:
"The city considers this a very serious matter, and we are working with the employee to determine what actions should be taken."
Wetzel could not be reached for reaction.
