Top New Orleans leaders will have to testify and turn over records surrounding the indictment of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, according to a report.
Nola.com says Mayor Helena Moreno, District Attorney Jason Williams, and five City Council members have been ordered to provide evidence and testify in the case.
Murrill wants to know what, if any involvement, city officials had in a grand jury indicting her for alleged public intimidation.
Williams has said that the grand jury decided, on its own, to investigate and indict Murrill.
The attorney general has publicly questioned that notion.
Attorney Laura Cannizzaro Rodrigue filed the subpoenas. She says obtained by Murrill’s legal team contradict public statements from New Orleans officials that they had no involvement in the matter.
The Louisiana Supreme Court threw out the indictments.
They came after Murrill warned that New Orleans leaders could be in violation of the law and lose their jobs when they fought against the state combining the Orleans Parish Clerk of Court offices.
