The District Attorney on the Northshore is vowing to get to the bottom of what happened surrounding a New Orleans grand jury indicting Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Collin Sims has released a statement after the state supreme court appointed him as a special prosecutor.
"The integrity of our criminal justice system depends upon the public having faith and confidence in the grand jury process," Sims insisted. "I intend to follow the facts and the law wherever they lead, without prejudgment or outside influence."
The D.A. for St. Tammany and Washington Parish says he will determine whether the grand jury was properly used and work to confirm or dispel any concerns that it may have been misused.
Murrill's team accuses Mayor Helena Moreno and five city council members of conspiring with New Orleans D.A. Jason Williams to illegally indict Murrill.
The charges were later dismissed.
At issue is whether the New Orleans leaders improperly manipulated the process, denied Murrill her rights, or committed perjury.
Sims says he will determine if any criminal or ethical violations occurred.
