Are you planning a 4th of July barbecue? Some common menu items may be more expensive this summer, so look for what's local and in season.

"Beef prices are up 4.4 percent," said Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain.

Strain said potatoes, for your potato salad, and pork and beans are also up. But there are plenty of local favorites that are in plentiful supply.

"You can find fresh corn on the cob, fresh Creole tomatoes, and above all, fresh, local, Louisiana watermelon," he said.

And Strain pointed out that Louisiana seafood is not hurting, either.

"Believe it or not, you can still get some crawfish right now and shrimp aplenty," he said.

In all, Strain said it looks like the average cookout would cost around $70.92 to feed ten people.
